Want perfect waves without feeling like a proverbial sardine surfing in a can?

With Kool Katz Surf School you'll experience remote and pristine coastline just to the north or south of Byron as we guide you on 20 minute tour to the best and least crowded surfing spots. On a good day learn to surf with the dolphins, watch the whales or witness our indigenous and migratory birdlife from some excellent vantage points.

Kool Katz Surf School takes its surfari to where the waves are best. Whether it's Brunswick Heads, Lennox Head or East Ballina, we bother to go that little bit extra to get you safe and uncrowded waves to learn to surf in.

We proudly boast dual licence rights to Byron Shire (north of busy Main Beach) and neighbouring Ballina Shire to the south. From end to end we have the longest stretch of coastline available to us of any other surf school on the far north coast. That means we are better able to match the given conditions (wind, tide and swell) with a good surfing location.

• Sometimes we'll surf at Seven Mile Beach in the heart of Lennox. This epic stretch wraps around to the famous headland of Lennox Point which is internationally acclaimed as one of the world's premier surfing spots. Unspoilt by high density development, Lennox's main beach retains its village charm. Seven Mile Beach was judged regional winner of the 2004 Keep Australia Beautiful Clean Beaches Campaign. Those of you who attend a surf lesson with us in Lennox will also enjoy the unexpected bonus of a post-surf dip in the healing waters of Lake Ainsworth.
• Other days you may find yourself in waves a few kilometres further south at the panoramic and uncrowded Angels, Flat Rock or Shelley beaches. Glimpse the amazing birdlife that inhabits the surrounding area.
• Occasionally, when the swell is small and the wind conditions are right, we head to the north of Byron shire where we run our surf classes near the Brunswick Heads Surf Lifesaving Club. Built on the Brunswick River, Brunswick Heads, is a tiny fishing village with an abundance of sea and freshwater birdlife and has a relaxed, holiday vibe.
• On a big swell, don't be discouraged from joining in! We'll surf in the protected inlets of East Ballina's picturesque Shaw's Bay. Kool Katz Surf School has exclusive learn to surf rights for this location. Here the waves are perfect for learners, and it's where the pelicans play. Also chosen by generations of Ballina locals as the premier place to learn to surf, Shaws Bay really does serve up some of the best beginner waves on the east coast of Australia.
